- Produce a sketch map of 2 of the following:
- Hike Route
- Campsite
- Forest Trail
- Local Park
- Housing Estate
- Stretch of river
- Do one of:
- By carefull observation and notes of barings and distances, make a map using a compass of a area 50m x 50 m of forest track,river bank or another area chosen by your examiner. Use pacing to estimate distance and triangulate enough barings to establish key points and features on the map.
- Make an accurate map of a campsite... using plane table triangulation method and careful observations
- Draw a cross-section of a hike route chosen by your examiner, from a 1:50000 scale map. The route should include various features including rivers and gradient. Explain and show how you would read contours and grid referances on a map.
- Identify at least 5 of the following from one or more 1:50000 scale maps.
- V chaped valley
- U shaped valley
- Corrie lake
- A cliff/steep ground
- A Historical site
- A Youth hostel
- A railway track
- Triangulation Station
