Jamboree2008 Snippets from Peter Mee on Vimeo.
There are 8 leaders and 56 members (28 Cubs, 26 Scouts and 2 Ventures) going .
This year’s summer camp will be the national Jamboree. It will be on from Saturday August 2nd to Sunday August 10th 2008 in Punchestown Co Kildare. A Jamboree is an extra large camp with scouts around Ireland and the rest of the world taking part. The provisional booking list closed earlier this month at just over 10,000 scouts.
The Jamboree programme promises to be wide and varied. Scouts will be encouraged to take part in organised activities and will also be given an opportunity to plan programmes for themselves in order that they can participate fully in the event. The activities will include - Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Hill Walking, Survival Island, Celtic Adventures and much more.
Scouts will camp under canvas in open fields at jamboree 2008. There will be a number of sub camps, each well laid-out to ensure plenty of space and ease of movement around the large site. Full facilities will be available for all including WC’s, washing and eating facilities centred around each sub camp. Infrastructure planning is already well underway to ensure that living on-site is comfortable but has a minimum impact on the environment.
The cost per Scout / Venture Scout for the 9 day camp is ~€400 (*1) €350. Cubs pay ~€180 (*1) €150. The camp fee includes food, activity transport, camp neckerchief, shoulder bag, camp badge and woggle, camp cookbook and souvenir booklet, programme, ceremonies, insurance, infrastructure, camp site fees, weather and a Jamboree experience.
